Better Than Before with Ali Brauer (S17E10)

In this Episode

This week on the show Haley and Alyssa are joined by professional triathlete Ali Brauer. Ali is a member of the JP Elite Triathlon Team, a “daily training environment” squad based in New Hampshire. The team lives and trains together for most of the year, and she gives us an inside look at what that kind of intensive squad life is like.

The daughter of an elite runner an and elite swimmer, Ali grew up playing all kinds of sports, and she was both a swimmer and runner during her undergrad in college. After taking some time away from sport while doing her masters, Ali found triathlon while doing her PhD at Colorado University in Boulder. As her passion for triathlon grew, Ali realized that she was more drawn to sport than she was to academia, and she decided to pursue professional triathlon full time.

As a bonafide overachiever, Ali opens up about burnout, subsequent injuries, and how she was able to overcome the mental and physical fallout of burning the candle at both ends. She is now on the right track, and after a successful season in 2021 with multiple 70.3 podiums, Ali is ready to take on the 2022 season from an even better place than she was last year.
