This week Haley & Alyssa speak with adventure racer and ultra runner Sonja Wieck. Sonja is a seasoned Ironman competitor with a long list of accomplishments in triathlon and ultrarunning, topped with a 2nd place finish at the Ironman World Championships in the 35-39 age group in 2015. After stepping away from Ironman, Sonja leapt head first into the world of adventure racing. Her most recent adventure was as a competitor on Team Iron Cowboy at the World’s Toughest Race Eco-Challenge Fiji. The race was featured as a binge-worthy series on Amazon Prime, and Sonja tells us all about the preparation and training that she and her team had to undertake to get ready for the big event. Sonja speaks honestly about her mental health struggles and how she was able to reframe her identity as an athlete to use sport as a form of self-care and personal growth.
