This week, Kathryn and Kristi catchup with Allyson de la Houssaye, cyclist and founder of Women of Oz, to discuss building a bike friendly community for beginners. Women of Oz is an inclusive, non-profit organization in Northwest Arkansas. Their mission, “to get women on mountain bikes by breaking down barriers” [to participation] including intimidation, education and access to equipment.
Allyson discusses how she works with the local community to eliminate these barriers and gives tips on creating unity across all disciplines of cycling: road, gravel, and mountain. She gives pointers on how to start your own beginners group and how developing leaders on the bike creates leaders at home and in the community.
Reaching thousands of women, WOZNWA creates a culture of women elevating women and promotes friendship, community and fellowship in underrepresented demographics.
