First up on this week’s show Haley has a quick catchup with America pro triathlete Taylor Knibb, who is fresh off a win at WTS Yokohama this past weekend. Taylor’s victory there earned her a spot on the US Olympic Team and a ticket to compete in the Olympic Games in Tokyo this summer. At age 23, Taylor is the youngest person to earn a spot on the US Olympic Triathlon squad. But with nearly a decade of racing under her belt, she is well-positioned to make a big splash at the Games this summer.
Next on the docket, Alyssa and Haley catch up with retired pro triathlete Jessica Jones Lasley from her home in Tulsa, OK for her inside scoop on the upcoming Ironman happening there this coming weekend (May 23). Although a recent bike crash has unfortunately taken Jess out of the race, she gives us a total run-through of what athletes can expect from this brand new Ironman course, as well as her picks for the pro podium.
Jess is a 3-time Ironman 70.3 champion, combat veteran of the US Army, and mom of three. She tells us about her unique path into the sport, and how serving in the Army prepared her for a career as a triathlete. In 2006 Jess returned to racing after giving birth to twins, as one of very few female pros to do so at the time, she reflects on how the sport has changed since then to welcome and encourage women to return to competitive racing after becoming mothers, and hopes that her example helped to blaze a trail for others.
